Solas Web Design recently completed a new website for the poet Mary O’Donnell. Mary O’Donnell was born in Monaghan, educated at St. Louis Convent Monaghan and later at St. Patrick’s College Maynooth. She holds a BA in German and Philosophy (Maynooth, 1977), has studied German to MA level and received a first class honours Higher Diploma in Education at Maynooth (1983). During the last twenty years her career has reflected various interests. She has been a teacher of English, German and Drama; she worked with the development agency Concern; she has been a translator and worked in journalism as The Sunday Tribune’s Drama Critic for three years, following on which she freelanced for a further three years.

The Salmon, a journal of poetry and prose was a flagship for writers in the west of Ireland, and Salmon’s first books, Gonella by Eva Bourke and Goddess on the Mervue Bus by Rita Ann Higgins broke new ground for women poets. Since then over 200 volumes of poetry have been produced, and Salmon has become one of the most important publishers in the Irish literary world. By specialising in the promotion of new poets, particulary women poets, Salmon has enriched Irish literary publishing.

Solas Web Design recently completed a new website for poet Máighréad Medbh. Máighréad Medbh was born in Newcastle West, County Limerick, Ireland. Since the publication of her critically-acclaimed first collection, ‘The Making of a Pagan’ (Blackstaff Press), in 1990, she has become widely known as a poet who applies much creative energy to the performance of her work. She was one of the few poets who popularised performance poetry in Ireland in the 1990s. She has performed, to consistently good reviews, at a large number of venues in Ireland, Great Britain, the United States, mainland Europe and on the broadcast media.
